If you’ve tried everything else

  • You’ve been to rehab, maybe more than once, and slipped soon after.
  • You’ve been told to take it one day at a time, forever, and it never felt like freedom.
  • You’ve worked the steps before, and they didn’t hold.
  • It isn’t alcohol for you. It’s pills, gambling, porn, food, or depression and anxiety that won’t let go.
  • You love someone who’s stuck, and you’ve run out of ways to help.

Robert’s story

From a hospital bed to the life he has now

Robert built a career producing film and television and was a millionaire by 30. The success brought stress with it, and with the stress came alcohol, drugs, depression and anxiety.

By 46 he had lost his business, his marriage, his home and his family. He lived on the streets of Salt Lake City. He went through seven treatment centers, and each time, he says, he drank or used the day he left. Not even jail stopped him.

Then, in acute withdrawal, he had a seizure and heart failure. At LDS Hospital, doctors told him his liver had failed and he would not survive the day. He did. He calls it the moment he finally surrendered, and his spiritual awakening.

Soon after, a mentor guided Robert through an intensive process of spiritual transformation and education that brought an end to years of suffering. During those days, the obsession and craving for alcohol and drugs were lifted, and Robert experienced a freedom he had never known. He has remained free from alcohol ever since October 10, 2010.

Since then, Robert returned to school at Purdue University, where he studied psychology and addiction. He reunited with his children, married the love of his life, and dedicated his life to helping others find the freedom he discovered. He went on to open treatment centers in Park City, St. George, Utah, and at the gates of Zion National Park. He founded Zion Recovery and Zion Healing Centers, which have grown to more than 35 locations nationwide, with continued expansion. These outpatient centers teach the principles that transformed his own life, helping others find a path to lasting recovery.

Robert is also the author of How Free Do You Want to Be, Desperation of a Dying Man, The Business of Healing, and Called From Chaos. He co-founded Recovered Nation to share the process that saved his life and make that same path of freedom accessible to others.

What it asks of you

  • Willingness

An open mind, an open heart and the work. If you still believe you can manage this on your own, Robert says this isn’t for you yet.

  • Faith, in your own words

Robert talks openly about God and prayer. He also says the path is a spiritual one, “whatever that means to you, whatever you call it.”

  • Keep moving

“You cannot go through these steps too quickly,” he says. “You can, however, go through them too slowly.”

Buying it for someone you love?

Robert has sat with hundreds of parents who mortgaged homes and emptied savings trying to fix someone they love. His honest advice: you can’t want recovery more than they do. This course can help the person who’s willing to do it.

If they aren’t there yet, he says the most loving thing you can do is hold the line. Boundaries aren’t punishment. In his words, they’re love in its most courageous form.

Questions people ask

Is it only for alcohol?

No. Robert teaches timeless principles of recovery and spiritual transformation, passed down for more than 100 years and learned from the mentors who helped transform his own life. He applies these principles to alcohol and drug addiction, gambling, pornography, eating disorders, smoking, depression, and anxiety, guiding you step by step toward lasting freedom.

I’ve done 12 steps before. Why would this be different?

Robert tried countless approaches, including treatment centers, educational programs, and support groups, but none brought him lasting freedom. In this course, Robert becomes your mentor, walking you through that same process step by step so you can experience the 15 Promises and discover lasting freedom.

Do I have to be religious?

Robert speaks openly about God, and the course is spiritual at its core. He leaves what that means to you, and what you call it, up to you.

How long does it take?

Lessons run about half an hour each and you watch at your own pace. Robert’s advice is to keep going: the steps can’t be done too quickly, only too slowly.
